Algorithms drive innovation at AGR

Australian Gold Reagents (AGR) has implemented internally-built technology upgrades for solution sodium cyanide scheduling and despatch which is saving time, improving efficiency and reducing the potential for human error.

Historically, AGR has scheduled its solution sodium cyanide deliveries using a manual system, where customer usage and delivery schedules were calculated by the Chemical Distribution Team.

While this process has operated well for many years, there were some potential risks including double handling, paper based processes, human error – as some documentation was hand written and relied on specific customer knowledge – due to rules around tank sizes, levels, usage, delivery day, timing and reorder points.

Over an eight month period, incremental releases of the solution was delivered. The Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers (WesCEF) IT team developed a scheduling engine which can forecast delivery requirements well in advance, for customers based on innovative predictive algorithms.

Efficiencies gained as a result include paperwork automation, barcode tracking and shipment/invoice processing at the click of a button.

The next phase of the project is already underway, with the development of a customer portal to increase customer service transparency, allowing for a seamless customer experience when dealing with AGR.
